Gustavo Vinagre, a Brazilian director, scriptwriter and actor, blends filmmaking, pornography and gentrification into this experimental film.
Protagonist Gustavo, having studied filmmaking in Cuba, returns to his childhood home in Sao Paolo and discovers that the neighborhood is being taken over by developers constructing high-rise buildings to house the upper classes.
Gustavo decides to resist this change by having sex around the places he grew up in: the old playground, swimming pool, and fields that will soon disappear and exist only in his memory.
New Dubai is a fascinating amalgam of social treatise, art project, love of American B movies and inquiry into sexual politics. Vinagre brings a daring view of gentrification, with unbelievable energies reminiscent of Bruce La Bruce's The Raspberry Reich.
