This debut by Christopher Schaap is a dream come true for any gay cinema aficionado. Schaap has created a gay coming-of-age story set in New York City and inspired by several classic films. He loves the way James Dean and Natalie Wood kiss in Rebel Without A Cause and the sounds of the orchestra that accompany Laurence Olivier as he violently makes love to Joan Fontaine in Rebecca. Yet reality is hardly a Hollywood classic, and gay men are not 1950s movie stars.
Charlie spends his time looking for hook-ups on various apps, going on dates in bars, and living in cramped NYC apartments. Like anyone who loves falling in love, Charlie finds himself falling for all the wrong guys, whether they be someone who is in a relationship, his own best friend, or a closeted student. Charlie begins to fear his sexual identity is what prevents him from finding his second half, the man who will make a reality of the Hollywood love story he has always aspired to have.
