In association with Aids Task Force

TLVFest is proud to host the international premiere for the latest film by Malaysian-American director Yen Tan, who has established himself as one of the most interesting voices in American queer independent cinema. In 1985, inspired by his similarly-titled and award-winning short film, Tan soars to new heights.
The film takes place in the early 1980’s, as the first wave of the AIDS epidemic swept through major urban areas in the United States. Adrian, a gay man, returns to his very small Texas hometown for Christmas. Keeping his family in the dark about the tragedy taking place in New York, Adrian re-connects with his younger brother and his alienated childhood friend. He decides to reveal the reason for his visit to his religious parents.
Better known for playing Gotham character the Riddler and for his impressive performances in Olive Kitteridge and Carol, Cory Michael Smith delivers a moving performance in 1985. No less impressive are veteran actors Virginia Madsen and Michael Chiklis, who play his parents.
