Air is one of the most refreshing surprises recently delivered by independent European cinema. A unique method that brings together surrealism and impressionism is employed to tell the story of the young, captivating love that grows between two souls that are world apart, whose meeting transforms them both. Manja is in love with free-spirited Louk. Their encounter strikes Manja physically and spiritually. They first meet behind the apartment block where Manja resides with her family; what begins with violence concludes with a tender kiss. The relationship between the two girls grows into a teen rebellion that allows distant, down-to-earth Manja to do things she has never dreamt she would do, while aware of the fact that reality will ultimately force her and her lover to wake up from their dream world.
Air is a gentle cinematic piece starring young, unknown young actresses, whose intense acting goes straight into viewers’ hearts.
