Chela and Chiquita have been together for years. Over time they have become fully synchronized in all aspects of life. Extrovert, assertive Chiquita manages their life vigorously, while Chela prefers spending as much time as possible at her easel, painting. Financial hardships and a growing debt force them to sell their heirloom furniture. When Chiquita is imprisoned due to their debt, Chela is left to fend for herself for the first time in years. She decides to use their vintage car to make a living as a chauffeur to the rich, elderly ladies of their neighborhood. One day, en route to a card party held by a client, she meets young, lively Angy. For the first time in her life, Chela begins to re-discover her own will.
The Heiresses is an intimate drama masterfully created by director Marcelo Martinessi and perfected through the excellent performances of all cast members. Martinessi peels the external layers off his characters until their innermost selves are revealed, while simultaneously deconstructing various social classes into a complex contemporary image of Paraguayan society.
