The debut film by Martín Rodríguez Redondo is based on a true story. The plot and unexpected ending will leave audiences breathless. There is not much going on in the humble village where Marcos resides with his cattle-ranching family. Predators, both animal and human, are lurking around the family’s little piece of heaven, waiting to take it away from them. In the midst of this situation is Marcos, who keeps a secret from his conservative, homophobic family: at night he puts makeup on, wears colorful dresses, and heads into town to party with his best friend. Redondo’s cinematic debut presents a complex image of a young man who aspires for freedom and self-definition, yet is rendered entirely hopeless by his stifling environment and relations. Walter Rodríguez, who plays Marcos, delivers a very moving maiden appearance on the big screen. Supporting him are two excellent Chilean actors – Catalina Saavedra plays his tough mother, while Andrew Bargsted, whom audiences will recall fondly from You’ll Never Be Alone, plays his lover. Prepare for a powerful realistic drama.
