Prepare your vocal chords and tissues, because San Francisco’s touching Gay Men’s Chorus is about to take you on an unforgettable journey to down South.
Following Trump’s presidential victory in 2016, anti-LGBT, homophobic voices and trends experienced a surge in the South, with several attempts made at introducing discriminatory legislation against the gay community in various Southern states.
In response, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, led by Dr. Tim Seeling goes on tour across the Deep South with the goal of promoting a message of love and acceptance. Over 300 singers made their way from Mississippi to Tennessee, through Carolina and Edmund Pettus Bridge. They performed in churches, community centres and concert halls, in the hopes that with music, they could bring about change. It is also a personal journey for Tim and other chorus members who had grown up in the South before escaping it and their families. For the first time in decades, they will now face all their fears.
Gay Chorus Deep South is a touching documentary about the power of music.
