Director Nick Zeig-Owens’ documentary is a multilayered, intimate portrait of one of the most standout, successful drag acts currently around: Trixie Mattel. Zeig-Owens follows Trixie from the moment of her elimination on the 7th season of hit reality series, RuPaul’s Drag Race through to club gigs, a UK tour, and the recording of an album. Later on, we delve into her painful family history, see her through the unforeseen breakdown of her close friend and web series cohost, Katya Zamolodchikova, and finally her triumph as the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, Season 3.
Behind the camp makeup and pink outfits is Brian Firkus, a quiet, levelheaded man; a talented musician and consummate professional who, for the first time has allowed cameras into his world, showing fans everywhere the man behind the optimistic, colorful drag persona he has created.
