Another Europe

“Another Europe” is an essay delivered through  experimental cinema and queer stories. The voice of artist Kathi Hofer accompanies the filmmaker’s journey across Europe that began in the summer of 2019 and continued until the outbreak of COVID-19.
Associative spaces, visual portraits of distant places in Europe, far from typical tourist spots, unfold on the screen.
Passing landscapes, pictures in motion, taking trains, ferries and public transportation. The visuals are accompanied by a train of thoughts, the boundaries between facts and memories become blurred.
A personal story that becomes universal. The connection between space and identity. Longing for distances alongside the choice to link personal history to the geography of a country as an integral part of identity.
This work will challenge its audience and offer new alternative ways of perceiving and interpreting, a new way of analysing images, sounds and stories, all from a female perspective.
We can all belong and we can find a home in each other.
Notice the special soundtrack composed by the Dutch musician Machinfabriek, that manages to evoke feelings of isolation and alienation, but its sounds are still calm and warm.
