“The 20th Century” is a cinematic work of art with extraordinary energy, Rankin creates an original vision that occupies the big screen. It’s no surprise the movie won the Best Canadian First Feature Film Award at the recent Toronto Film Festival.
The plot features a very stylish and completely fictional portrait of the rise to power of Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King (who served three terms in the 20-40s).
The result is dizzying with loads of queer and campy humor and never-ending sweetness. It is almost as if the movie was created under the influence of a magic maple potion. Surely this is one of the strangest and funniest historical satires you will ever see on the big screen.
