BOULEVARD! A Hollywood Story

Long before Andrew Lloyd Weber and Glen Close swept Broadway with the musical version of the classic Billy Wilder’s film “Sunset Boulevard”, it was Gloria Swanson, the iconic star of the film that saw the potential and started working on a musical stage production of the famous film.
Dixon Hughes and Richard Stapley, two failing Hollywood musicians and actors who happened to be a romantic couple, were struggling to promote their careers and were looking for their big break. The couple found themselves swept into the life of the ageing star, invited to her grand house in Palm Springs, where the trio started working on making the classic into a musical. As time goes by, the lines between professional and personal began to blur for the unusual trio.
Jeffrey Schwarz is one of the most important queer documentary directors of the last two decades. With a lot of intelligence and sensitivity he’s revealing an unbelievable story of three talented, but lost people, lurking in the shadows of Hollywood, whose joint work had changed their lives completely.
