“Mascarpone: The Rainbow Cake” & show by Tom Schneid

8.11 – Before the screening: Musical performance by Tom Schneid

Italian director Alessandro Guida returns with “Mascarpone: The Rainbow Cake”– a sequel that doesn’t fall short from its predecessor.
Antonio and Luca reunite for the first time after three years since the death of their good friend Denis. Luca had to close his bakery, and now works as youth counsellor, with his partner Tancredi, at an LGBTQ youth shelter. Antonio focused on his job and meaningless flings, and is now a celebrity chef. The meeting reignites their special relationship and Antonio realizes, for the first time, what a mistake he’s made leaving Luca behind.
Mascarpone: The Rainbow Cake” manages to surprise and be a mature film about how to free oneself from the shackles that tie us to the past, so that we can look forwards to the future. The cast is wonderful, the plot is moving and of course there are a few delicious baked treats.

It is not vital to watch the first film in order to enjoy the sequel.

~30 minutes long opening before the screening.

A romantic comedy set in Chicago that shakes all the conventions of that period about the way lesbians and bisexual women were shown on screen.
Five friends in their early 30’s are living and loving in Chicago. Max is looking for a meaningful relationship. Kia is in love with Evy, who lives with her mother and tries to get rid of her ex-husband. Ely is ready for an adventure that might come her way and shares an apartment with Daria – “The” Lesbian of Chicago, who had every girl in Chicago pass through her bed.
Rose Troche’s debut film is a witty and fast-paced comedy about women who are very comfortable with their sexual identity and who are trying to fulfill themselves emotionally as well.

Jennifer’s Body

Celebrating the 15 year anniversary to the Sapphic cult comedy-horror.
Before the screening, a short lecture by Gili Porat (podcast “TrashTalk”) on queer viewing of “Jennifer’s Body”.

After winning the Oscar for best original script for “Juno”, Diablo Cody wondered what would be her second Oscar-worthy movie? And thus we got “Jennifer’s Body” – a wonderfully bloody teen comedy that flopped in real time but rose to a cult film status over the years.
After a mysterious incident in the woods, the high school’s most popular student (Megan Fox) becomes very hungry. When male students start to disappear one after the other, her nerdy best friend Needy (Amanda Seyfried), who is having a rather unusual relationship with Jennifer, decides to put a stop to the massacre. Will she succeed?
Also, Chris Pratt is literally on fire in the film!

The movie is also available on Disney Plus

Winner of the 2000 Foreign Film Academy Award. Almodovar’s 13th film is a wonderful melodrama about the journey of Manuela from Madrid to Barcelona, in search of the man she left 18 years ago, in order to tell him about their son, whom he never got to meet before the son was killed in a car accident.
All About My Mother” is Almodovar at his peak, with unforgettable characters, incredible aesthetics and sharp humor next to emotional maturity, deep understanding of the human soul and the ability to combine all these into a cinematic bomb of emotions.

Lesvia

Since the 70’s lesbians from all over the world have been drawn to the island of Lesbos, the birthplace of the famous ancient Greek poet Sappho. They find refuge on the wild beaches that are void of tourists, next to small traditional fishermen villages. The women create their own environment that does not align with the conservative mind set of the nearby villagers and brings forth tensions. Some lesbians decide to relocate to the village and start a new community, hotels and businesses that cater to the lesbian crowd, which makes the locals feel like their home had been invaded and turned upside down.
Filmmaker Tzeli Hadjidimitriou, a Lesbos native and a lesbian herself, directed an immersive experience about 40 years of love, community, conflict and gentrification.
