Since its premiere at the 2014 IDFA, Olya's Love has been shown in dozens of film festivals and human rights events across the world. The film will now be screened for one time only as part of the 2016 TLVFest.
Many activists are confronted with the issues of drawing lines between the private and the public spheres or just how far activism can interfere with one's own love life. Olya's Love handles these themes in a touching way.
It is the story of Olya, a devoted LGBT activist in Moscow. Her partner Galiya does not want to allow politics to control their lives. Their love for each other is strong and they long to have children together. Yet when the Russian parliament passes anti-LGBT legislation, Olya's activism amplifies, which puts her relationship to a difficult test.
