Director Barbara Kopple, who won the Academy Award for her documentaries Harlan County U.S.A. (1976) and American Dream (1990), transfers onto the silver screen the exciting international Youtube phenomenon that is Gigi Gorgeous, providing audiences with an honest, moving film experience, as could be expected.
In 2008, Gregory Lazzarato, a young Canadian diver and Olympic Games hopeful, came out of the water and into the web, launching a series of Youtube makeup tutorials. Unwilling to put up with harassment by his high school peers or internet bullies, Lazzarato emerged as Gregory Gorgeous, coming out as gay. His loyalty to himself inspired his many online fans. Notwithstanding his exhibitionist persona, there was one secret remaining hidden.
