A Date for Mad Mary is a comic drama spiced with dry, witty humor. It follows the life of Mary, recently released from a young offenders’ institution following a six-month incarceration for viciously attacking a fellow high school student. Immediately upon leaving the institution she goes to help her best friend, Charlene, prepare for her wedding, due to take place in three weeks’ time. Mary is given the task of finding photographer for the wedding, at the same time attempting to find a boyfriend so as not to show up on her own. She meets Jess, a sweet indie singer and a talented events photographer. This new acquaintance puzzles Mary, who is secretly and somewhat unwittingly attracted to Charlene.
Young actress Seána Kerslake has justly garnered many awards for her appearance in this film. She creates a unique character of a troubled girl with difficulties restraining herself, aware of her problems but unable to keep her anger in check, and retaining a very human vulnerability. You don’t want to miss this excellent drama.
