2017 Berlin Festival International Panorama – World Premiere
Bruce LaBruce revisits The Raspberry Reich, one of his most influential films. In the 2004 movie, actress Susanne Sachsse played the leader of an underground cell made up of straight men whom she had turned gay, who is planning a revolution. In 2017 she stars in The Misandrists, which premiered at the 2017 Berlin Festival International Panorama and is filled with humor and irony. This time she is the mother superior of a convent-cum-girls school, ruling her disciples with an iron fist. Together with her colleagues, she plans the next big revolution: abducting men and turning them into women. But what happens when one of the students, who is also harboring a major secret concerning her identity, decides to help an injured runaway soldier, and even falls in love with him?
The Misandrists is entirely un-politically correct, and that’s precisely its source of subversive, queer strength. With a cast totally committed to their roles, the film raises important questions on sexuality and identity and is naturally overflowing with sex. Both teachers and students are set to discover quite a few things about themselves and their sexuality.
Entrance is restricted to viewers aged 18 and older due to explicit sexual content.
