The plot of this 2017 Best Foreign-Language Picture nominee in the Academy Awards takes place in 1990’s Paris. French protest group ACT UP, consisting of LGBTs and supporters, campaigns for treatment for AIDS patients and fights against infection. The group has many different members: ideological young people, people living with the virus, their family members, friends, and social activists. Nathan, a newly-recruited member, is fascinated with the group’s work: street acts that are sometimes illegal, charged discussions as to how far the group should and could go, and the other members. Uninhibited Sean, played captivatingly by Nahuel Pérez Biscayart. In between demonstrations, underground protests and steamy parties, the two men enter into a touching love affair.
