Director Lucy Liu’s film, “taipeilove*”, is the first documentary to feature Taiwan’s LGBT community’s struggle for same-sex marriage.
The documentary follows private individuals, activists, politicians and experts in Taiwanese society who fight for equality in marriage and navigate their lives through the distress of coming out of the closet, the reaction of families which is sometimes not simple, loneliness and also finding love.
“taipeilove*” is a living, colorful and important testimony to the struggles and ongoing progress in the LGBT community in Taiwan.
Lucy Liu followed the three protagonists for eight months: Sarah (26, lesbian), David (45, gay) and Kevin (45, gay) who opened their lives and homes to share their stories. The intimate stories and encounters with experts and social activists, some of whom have already spent thirty years of their lives in the struggle for equality, provide the political and social side of the struggle.
