Todd Verrow is one of the most important Queer filmmakers in New York since the early 1990s, when his film, FRISK was screened at the 1995 Sundance Film Festival. Since then he became a pioneer in directing and made 47 daring and alternative independent films.
In his new film “Goodbye Seventies” he returns to a more mainstream type of filmmaking with a nostalgic and melancholic tribute to the golden age of gay porn.
The plot takes place in the 1970s, the peak period of gay pornography in New York City. A promising young Broadway dancer is injured and told he will never be able to dance professionally again. Confused, he seeks a creative and economic refuge and decides to gather his friends and lovers to create “artistic” films that will be much better than the films screened in the filthy cinemas of Times Square. Against all odds the films are very successful until drugs, AIDS and cheap video technology destroy everything.
