A powerful and original documentary centered on the oldest gay bar in Cuba, famous for the group of drag artists “El Futuro”, the first to break boundaries and conventions, a group that performed weekly public drag shows in 1991. The film reveals some surprising events in the life of the LGBT community in Cuba from its’ first years to this day, we see the changes that have taken place as a result of the group members becoming local celebrities and how this has affected their lives.
The film presents a variety of topics, such as dealing with HIV, hate crimes, plastic surgery and also an exciting comeback to the stage for one final evening of one of the group’s founders.
The film was secretly shot in Cuba. This is Chad Hahne’s first film as a director. He is one of the producers of the Oscar-nominated film “How to Survive a Plague” and one of the producers of the reality show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
