“Suk Suk” is a delicate work about men in their golden years, a love story of two elderly men in Hong Kong.
Pak is a 70-year-old taxi driver who lives with his wife. His son is happily married with children, and his daughter is pregnant and about to get married. Hoi moved in with his son, a devout Christian, the wife of his son and his granddaughter. They both have little reason to enjoy life. Two men, who have lived all their lives without revealing their sexual identities to others, come across each other by chance. After a first date they start spending more time together and eventually fall in love. Hoi regularly attends meetings for gay retired men who plan to apply for government funding for a gay community nursing home, but no one is interested in volunteering to speak in front of an audience.
This is a wonderful film that raises important issues and gently depicts the loneliness, joy of life, solidarity, passion and suffering that elderly gay men experience.
