Cristi works as a policeman in Bucharest. His lover Hadi is visiting from Paris. Their union is romantic and exciting, but is in complete contradiction to Cristi’s work environment as policeman and the reality in a country that is still in the process of recognizing LGBT rights. One day he finds himself trapped in the heart of the struggle from which he has so desperately tried to escape in his public life. On the one hand the protesters against LGBT rights and on the other side LGBT people that come to watch a gay movie in the cinema. “Poppy Field”, is impressive debut film by Eugen Jebeleanu, continues the tradition of Romanian cinema as a fascinating work without assumptions that holds the viewer in high tension. The lead actor, Conrad Mericoffer, who plays Cristi creates a deep, complex and full of conflicts man, which pays the heavy price of living in a closet in a homophobic and violent living environment. You will not forget this movie for weeks after watching it.
