In her directorial debut, actress and podcast host Dasha Nekrasova deals with gender and power roles in a different, daring and surprising way. Nekrasova delivers a disturbing piece, influenced by the Italian “Giallo” films and the psychological horror films of the 70’s and 80’s. Both genres are reimagined together in a film that is well connected to its roots but also defies them.
Two roommates discover that the new apartment they rented in the upper east side has a dark history of horrible secrets. It used belong to the billionaire sex offender and pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, and there he carried out his horrible crimes. The apartment is haunted by the ghosts of his young victims and the more the two roommates investigate the history of the apartment and what took place there, they find themselves deeper and deeper in trouble.
The scary of Sixty-First” is a shrewd film operating inside the world of content which Nekrasova feeds on, such as internet culture and conspiracy theories.
Viewing is 18+.
