The Sixth Reel

We are proud to bring you the Israeli premiere of the last masterpiece by legendary actor/director/screenwriter Charles Busch. Busch was nominated for a Tony award for his screenplay “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife” and was made famous through his comedies that took Off-Broadway by storm and later became cult films (“Psycho Beach Party”, “Die, Mommie, Die!”). This time he’s collaborating with Carl Andress both in screenwriting and directing.
In this hilarious comedy Busch stars as Jimmy, a New Yorker who is obsessed with old Hollywood. He is a member of a community of memorabilia collectors of old obscure Hollywood films, those that nobody cares about. Following the death of a close friend, a sixth reel is revealed from a shelved film by horror director Tod Browning (director of Bela Lugosi’s “Dracula”). Jimmy and his friends find themselves in a tangled plan involving fake romances, drag, kidnapping, farfetched plot twists and maybe some vampires, and all of it for the chance to make a big buck on the lost reel.
What’s wonderfully magical in Andress and Busch film is its basic kindness. This is a modest, funny film full of love for cinema of old.
