Screening of a restored copy of John Cameron Mitchel’s cult film in celebration of its 15th anniversary.
The most revolutionary and daring American film from the middle of the first decade of the 21st century, is probably the most daring commercial film since the 60’s and 70’s when film creators were still individual spirits and sexuality was free of inhibitions, long before the age of Spielberg and Lucas’ blockbusters of the late 70’s.
“Shortbus” is the story of lost souls in New York, who are looking for love in all the wrong places. A sex and relationship therapist who has never had an orgasm, a gay couple who decides to add a permanent third to their relationship, a S&M queen for hire and a peeping Tom- all meet in an underground club where they can be themselves without a hint of shame.
“Shortbus” is an independent film that was created after two years of improvisations and rehearsals where the actors immersed themselves fully in their roles. It’s an exhilarating cinematic experience from start to finish, and contains loads of exciting visual cinematic inventions. It has a fantastic score, which is no surprise, given the writer and director of this film is the one who made “Hedwig and The Angry Inch”.
Viewing is 18+ due to explicit sexual content.
