Call Me By Your Name

Seventeen-year old Elio arrives at a picturesque village in northern Italy in the scorching summer of 1983. He spends his days listening to music, reading, and swimming. One day Oliver, his father’s new assistant, arrives at the family’s spacious villa. Oliver is 30 years old, handsome, confident, and has abundant charisma. Like Elio, he is of Jewish origin. At first, Elio is aloof, but soon begins to make hesitant advances towards Oliver. These moves become more and more intimate, although, as Oliver says, they cannot be discussed in public. As the summer progresses, a tender, unforgettable love story unfolds.

Director Luca Guadagnino wrote the script together with legendary cinema artist James Ivory (Morris, Howard’s End). Set in the tantalizing north Italian countryside, Call Me By Your Name is one of the most exciting love stories to feature on the silver screen in the past few years. It is also the coming-of-age story of a reserved, intellectual youth, who is not fully sure how to handle the intense emotions he is experiencing for the first time.

Armie Hammer (Social Network, J. Edgar) is excellent in his role as Oliver, alongside brilliant young arrival Timothée Chalamet as Elio, a role for which many believe he will win an Oscar. Complementing the cinematography, careful direction, mature script and excellent acting is the perfect original soundtrack by Sufjan Stevens.
