After a successful American premiere at the MoMA Museum last December, Posy Dixon’s wonderful film arrives in Tel Aviv.
From the beginning of his career, Beverly Glenn-Copeland (born in 1944) was an outsider: the only black student in classical music at the Academy of Music in Canada. He was also one of the few who was out of the closet in the early 1960’s, when it was still a criminal offense. For a long time Glenn-Copeland lived as a lesbian woman – until he realized he was transgender. The folk jazz records that Glenn-Copeland recorded in the early 1970’s did not gain recognition, neither did the album of new electronic age music he released in 1986: Keyboard Fantasies.
Three decades later, a Japanese record collector decides to re-release the record and at age 74 Beverly Glenn-Copeland finally wins the professional recognition he deserves.
The film accompanies Glenn on his tour with a young and colorful team of musicians, during which he reveals the story of his exciting and extraordinary life.
