Rafaelle, a bourgeois woman who is in the middle of a separation process from her partner, slips in the street during an argument. Yann, a truck driver coming from a “Yellow Vests” protest and a victim of police brutality. Two people from different ends of French society find themselves in the emergency room of a Parisian hospital. The ER is filling up fast and creates a microcosm of French society.
The esteemed director Catherine Corsini illuminates the divide in the French state of mind through Rafaelle and Yann’s stories.
“The Divide” is an intense, heartwarming and exciting film, aided by the three main stars: Marina Fois (as Juile, Raphaelle’s partner), Pio Marmaï (as Yann) and Valeria Bruni Tedeschi (“Summer of 85”, “Le Temps qui reste”) in a magnetic performance as Raphaelle.
