Jump, Darling

Russell, a failed young actor turned drag queen, moves in with his grandmother Margaret to her huge house. After failing to find his uniqueness as a drag queen and getting involved in a few other mischiefs, he needs a sanctuary where he can figure out what he wants for the rest of his life. Elderly Margaret, whose health is in rapid decline, is very happy to have her grandson living with her. It’s the best excuse to foil her daughter’s plans to move her into a nursing home. Russell starts working at a local bar and does drag at nights, while juggling dealing with his overprotective mother, new and old lovers and his grandmother who is trying to take control over her failing health.
Phil Connell creates a very human film about the special relationship between a grandmother and her grandson, the secrets we hide from one another and the ultimate question – what is it that keeps us wanting to go on living despite all the difficulties.
“Jump, Darling” was Cloris Leachman’s last leading role. Throughout her long career she has won an Emmy, Golden Globe, BAFTA and an Oscar for best supporting actress for “The Last Picture Show”. Leachman passed away on January 27th 2020, at the age of 94.
