The thoughts of teenage AJ, an enthusiastic environmentalist who likes to wear men’s clothes, revolve mainly how the methane from cows ruins the earth and how she would rather be anywhere in the world than with her painfully unimaginative family in a trailer park by the beach. After a suspension from school, AJ’s mother drags her to holiday camp along with AJ’s little sister and her older, heavily pregnant sister. The holiday soon turns into a nightmare when AJ finds out there is no Wi-Fi in the “holiday hut” (or rather the crowded trailer). She just knows this is going to be the worst holiday ever, but then she meets Isla, who works as a lifeguard in the pool of the holiday campsite.
“Sweetheart” is a strange and wonderfully sweet film about the growing up of a daughter and her mother.
