It is a moving, intimate tale of a family in the midst of a transition. Bennett Wallace, a gifted 19-year old musician, is experiencing growing up a little later than expected, as he is days away from the operation that will turn him into the person he has longed to be throughout his life. In Joe, another transgender musician, he finds a source of strength and an older brother figure. Bennett attempts to obtain support from his mother, yet she is hardly enthusiastic about the changes unfolding before her eyes. Her journey is far from easy. Throughout the film the support given to both mother and son by their communities reminds us that families are not merely biological; they can also be chosen.
This film is a catchy, flowing tune that goes straight into the heart and move our inner selves to tears.
