What does it really mean to be transgender? What makes people embark on a self actualization journey that holds so many doubts, so much pain and such profound changes?
This documentary follows seven trans* people on their way to self discovery. It shows how diverse those paths can be and also the types of hardships they include. The heroes and heroines talk openly about their personal experiences with the people around them and their gender identities. This film is a journey beyond the rigid gender norms and into intimate living spaces and the surgery room that turns into a second birth room. The film also recognizes the important and unprecedented work of Dr. Marci Bowers.
Co-directors Doris Metz and Imogen Kimmel manage to create a wide spectrum of wonderful characters and at the same time give an empathic and sincere view on the lives of transgender people and issues of gender identity.
