Remember the wonderful film “Undertow”, that won the Favorite award in the 2009 Sundance festival? Its director Javier Fuentes-León comes back with a biting comedy produced by Michel Ruben (“All about my mother”, “Talk to her”, “The Devil’s backbone”).
Luzmila and Peta are sisters working as housemaids for neighbours Alisia and Carmen, two aristocratic women living in one of the better neighborhoods of Lima, Peru. When the extended families of both wealthy women come together for a birthday dinner, past loves are reunited, betrayals are revealed, a huge terrible secret from the past is exposed and all the feelings of grandeur and prestige disappear when war breaks out between the two strong women, who rule their families with iron fists. And outside the protecting walls there’s a big protest that is destined to change everything.
Fuentes-Leon razor sharp script is biting, but still holds a big heart. The cast ensemble is doing a great job, especially Gracia Olayo and Grapa Paola as the two divas that may be good friends, but are also bitter enemies.
